From August 1 to 8, the "Open-source Pioneer Summit," as part of the Global Open-source AI Challenge’s global roadshow series, traveled across six cities — Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Singapore and Silicon Valley. It facilitated exchanges among global developers, university research teams, corporate tech teams, startups and open-source communities.
The event covered comprehensive briefings on the competition, city-themed keynote speeches, in-depth explorations of the four tracks, developer networking and on-site team formation. Centered on cutting-edge AI trends and in-depth competition interpretations, it facilitated exchanges of technical practices, further pooled global AI innovation resources, boosted communication and collaborative innovation in open-source technology, and injected new momentum into the development of the open-source AI ecosystem.
During city-themed sharing sessions, on-site experts delivered tailored speeches combining each city’s industrial foundation, tech ecosystem and innovation strengths, focusing on cutting-edge AI directions:
Beijing Stop centered on "Agents Enter Real Business" to discuss how Agents can be integrated into industrial scenarios; Shanghai Stop revolved around "AI Drives Scientific Discovery" to explore new trends of deep integration between artificial intelligence and scientific research innovation; Shenzhen Stop focused on the development direction of embodied intelligence to explore new paths for the integrated development of robotics, smart hardware and AI technologies; Hangzhou Stop took open-source ecosystem construction and AI innovation development as its theme to discuss how open collaboration can drive innovations of next-generation artificial intelligence; Singapore Stop delivered presentations concerning the construction of Asia’s AI innovation ecosystem to explore new opportunities for regional coordination and cross-border innovation cooperation; The Silicon Valley Stop centered on global collaboration among AI developers and the development of open-source ecosystems, featuring the sharing sessions around trustworthy AI, security governance, and production-grade Agent practices built on open-source technologies.
Across all six cities, the roadshows invited expert panels to provide in-depth insights into the four competition tracks: Agent Infra, Boundless Agents, AI for Research and Embodied Future. Experts elaborated on judging criteria, technical trends and specific case studies, and answered key questions regarding track selection, competition rules and project support mechanisms.
The event also highlighted the competition’s incentive mechanism featuring a total cash prize pool of RMB 5 million and a top Grand Prize of RMB 1 million. In addition, participating projects can gain diversified support including technical exchanges, expert guidance, ecosystem networking and project showcases, which equips developers with richer innovation resources and growth opportunities and further stimulates the enthusiasm of global AI Builders to take part.
The subsequent face-to-face expert consultation and on-site team matching sessions pushed the event atmosphere to new heights. Developers seized the opportunity to dive into core questions including "how to pick a track", "how to polish projects" and "how to commercialize achievements". Expert mentors and competition staff provided targeted guidance combining technical trends, competition rules and practical experience.
At the team formation sessions, developers engaged in thorough communication covering project orientations, technical capabilities and team collaboration demands. Some shared project ideas to seek technical partners, while others formed competition teams in accordance with specific tracks. Previously unfamiliar developers quickly built rapport through discussions and even locked in teammates on the spot, with developers from diverse fields and cultural backgrounds rapidly establishing connections amid idea exchanges.
Notably, numerous open-source pioneers who attended the six-city roadshows signed up for the “1000 Voices” Program. They shared their visions for the open-source AI ecosystem from individual perspectives, bringing diverse voices to the global developer community.
As of August 8 (Beijing Time), the competition has attracted around9,500 participating teams from 34 countries and regions worldwide, yielding a wealth of innovative projects with outstanding open-source value and application potential, which form an abundant pool of candidates for the subsequent preliminary review and final selection processes.
With the successful conclusion of the Global Six-City Roadshows, Global Open-source AI Challenge has entered the final sprint phase for preliminary submissions; only 7 days remain before the preliminary submission deadline at 23:59:59, August 16 (Beijing Time), while the deadline for「Track 4: Embodied Future」falls on August 20. Upon the closing of preliminary submissions, the competition organizing committee will launch full-scale project review work, carry out semi-final and final selection from mid-August to early September, and host the Grand Finals and Global Open-source AI Challenge DAY in Hangzhou on September 22 and 23.
